Mr. Thomas Jefferson of Monticello will speak to and converse with visitors from the far western territory on the occasion of the 221st anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. The western travelers are welcome to gather at 6:00 PM at the Fort Dodge Public Library on July 1st, 2024.
Mr. Jefferson, who after eight years, retired from his elected office as chief Executive of these United States to return to his native home in Albemarle County, Virginia, was instrumental in the purchase of the land which includes what is now Iowa. His recollections and comments about the times and events that led to this purchase should rekindle the patriotic zeal demonstrated by Mr. Jefferson and his fellow patriots during much more onerous times than those we face today.
